Tameside Conservatives are out and about in the borough delivering their latest leaflet, showing the ridiculous stand taken by Labour – to stick their heads in the sand and ignore the mess they left after 13 years of mismanagement and waste in Government.

ROB ADLARD UNDERTAKES LONGDENDALE TESCO SURVEY

Rob Adlard and Longdendale Conservatives are surveying local residents for their opinions about the proposed new Tesco store opposite McDonald’s at the Eastern Terminal Roundabout, Hattersley.

Rob (left) said, “Investment in our area is long overdue, and who could argue with new jobs in Hattersley? However, many fear that Labour’s failure to provide a solution to the traffic problems will be compounded by this plan.

“The traffic report compiled for Tesco has alarmed some. It suggested that new traffic lights at the entrance on Ashworth Lane would cause severe delays, and that would be ‘helpful’ in stopping Ashworth Lane being a ‘cut-through’ for people driving to Broadbottom and into the Peak.

“For locals who know these roads, it’s very easy to imagine how tailbacks from the new entrance, so close to the lights already in place on Stockport Rd, will connect up with tailbacks on the M67 roundabout causing an even worse problem than exists today. Any plan shouldn’t accept punishing locals for simply driving home.”

He added, “We’ve often argued that Labour’s local domination means that residents don’t get to hear the full story. We think this another example where Labour Councillors have taken their ‘party’ view on the issue, and are doing everything they can to discourage discussion. Contrast Labour’s silence on this issue with their mail-shots to every home whenever they have something they want to shout about, or they simply want your vote.

Rob concluded, “I hope that Tesco can find a way to invest a little more and find a better solution. Let’s start the debate.”

The Tameside Conservatives have launched their ambitious local election manifesto for 2010, and are promising to end Labour failure in six key areas.

The Conservatives are pledging to:

2) Tackle crime and anti-social behaviour by putting more more police on the beat in the borough;

3) Tackle Tameside Council’s £40m pothole backlog by repairing the roads, as well improving the environment by tackling fly-tipping and making the bin service more reliable;

4) Support our children by improving Tameside’s below-average education standards;

5) Increase support for our communities by giving greater support to Sure Start, opening new community centres, and developing better youth facilities; and,

FLOYD THANKS THE RESIDENTS OF DENTON NORTH EAST

floydpaterson.2

A MESSAGE FROM FLOYD PATERSON

Thank you to all the residents of Denton North East who voted for me yesterday.

While I am disappointed not to have won, I take heart from the warmth of support I received during the election.

 However, the plain truth is simple, we faced a very determined Labour team who could call upon resources that the Conservatives cannot yet muster in Tameside, although that is changing by the day with our increasing membership.

Nonetheless, my campaign team worked their socks off for me, and my wholehearted thanks goes to each and every one of them. In total we delivered over 12,000 leaflets in just three weeks, and knocked on countless doors during the process.

It was a magnificent effort, and proved that the Conservatives are a focussed and unified team – the only credible alternative to Labour in Denton and Tameside.

Unfortunately, in a by-election, situation Labour were able to swamp the ward and residents lost count of the number of Labour leaflets they received. In the end, Labour were able to ‘get out their vote’.

Being new to politics it was certainly an enlightening experience to me! One that I want to repeat as soon as possible!

I congratulate Denise Ward on her victory. While I had my criticism of her campaign, which is outlined elsewhere on this website, I wish her the very best of luck as a councillor, and look forward to scrutinising her work during her term of office.

All that is left for me to say is that this may have been my first attempt to work on behalf of the people of Denton, but it certainly won’t be may last! Thank you.
